And what it all comes down to –

A missed November mail. An advance year-end mail. A song to cap it all off.

Nothing much going on. Had a life-crisis that lasted about 3 weeks or so. Gone on a 3AM trip to the beach. Wrote an embarrassingly and hilariously long love-letter-slash-essay about Mcdo when I was drunk. Saw Fiji Blue AND Epik High live. Yeah, nothing much. Fate really said “♫✨ You get the best of both worlds! ✨♫”

To say that my short time away here was wild is an understatement. Feral might be a better term. (And I, too, have definitely gone feral quite a few times.)

It was excruciating. After so, it was alleviating.

Last Thursday, I did my last shop restock for the year; sent an email saying I would submit some pre-booked things in January instead. A sign-off. Then I slept a full 10 hours. Feeling So_Nice-Carly_Rae_Jepsen(128kbps).mp3.

Yesterday, I just really waited for the Dreamies’ Candy MV to come out. Slept some more. Read all the newsletters and articles I’ve bookmarked. Wordle in the family group chat. (Yeah, we still do that.) Thinking might get an eyelash perm next week. We’ve been talking about wanting to try it for a while. (FYP ko kasi, daming alam.)

Today, I am sending this. Then I’m painting my ‘on-a-break’ nails – a mix of blue confetti and plain gold! Heh.

I like knowing what happens. So I still write things down. Or in this case, type it. Even in my self-declared break, I find satisfaction in having a list. Not denying myself of the kick of knowing I’ve “accomplished” things. Even if said list only includes ‘Play Stardew Valley.’ (Ooooh I’m getting Pokemon Violet on Sunday!!)

But before I get lost in the holidays where all the days blend in together and my list eventually won’t matter, here’s something to wrap up 2022.

So much has happened this year, yes. Yet, nothing much has changed. (Di pa rin naman ako long lost Princess of Genovia. Wala pa rin yung Hogwarts letter ko.) My year-end review isn’t much of a review. It’s more of the ‘I’m placing my 2022 book under my pillow hoping I remember some bits and pieces here and there, and just desperately begging that next year’s exam won’t be that hard.’ Yeah, I think that sums it all up.

And what it all comes down to
Is that I haven't got it all figured out just yet
‘Cause I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a peace sign

(Or a heart sign. Peace signs still don’t sit right with me. Another 2022 takeaway.)

Hand in My Pocket is a song I’ve grown up hearing. The album was released on the year I was born. And I like to think I’ve grown with it. Growing, still.

I’ve got both hands on my laptop, typing these down. (Waley, sorry.) Anyway, I’ve been doing more of the things I like this year. Just like this. That is way more than I would have wished for before.

And what it all comes down to my friends, yeah
Is that everything is just fine, fine, fine

2022 was weird. It was also very normal. Weirdly normal. I am still deciding if I like it, and I think I do. I could also just decide later. Not all things need to be figured out. Or maybe not just now. xx

May you forget what day it is. May you get all holiday sleep and shows and food and booze you need. May you find relief that in the next year, too, everything’s gonna be quite alright,
Louise

Nov-Dec things and quick links

Dami ko na sinabi kanina so pass na sa kwento. I’m just dropping down links below to things I’ve enjoyed recently.

  • A new Biter issue. A nostalgic write-up by my favorite writer, Toni Potenciano, about Pancake House.

  • Another one from Biter I enjoyed. TW: eating disorder, weight talks. Breakfast Interrupted.

  • A Breakup Letter to My Writing Career

  • Two oldie YS articles I revisited kasi gusto kong kinikilig sa kwento ng iba:

    • (1) He was a boy (who didn’t believe in structured religion), she was a girl (who was firmly Catholic). Can I make it any more obvious?

    • (2) Dating apps. Talking stages.

  • Work Later, Drink Now Season 2 is out! I remember laughing so much sa Season 1 last year so ito nanaman po siya on my list. Also, a friend recommended Loklok and I’ve been watching there. Di ako sure gaano kalegal/illegal ‘to pero it works so… HAHAHA.

  • Jonny Sun’s video game fish – because fishing is also my favorite RPG mini-game.

  • Last! Wendy’s opener in Bye Bye plays in my head an unhealthy amount of times in a day. “I only had LOVE for you. I only had. Love. For. YOU.” *throws tiny fists*
